What To Serve With Chicken Schnitzel: Air Fryer Smashed Brussels Sprouts (+ More Traditional Sides)
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 pound Brussels Sprouts
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ cup parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the sprouts by trimming the ends and, if necessary, discarding the outer leaves.
- Bring a pot of water to a boil add in the Brussels Sprouts, allowing them to cook for 10 minutes or until fork tender.
- Transfer them to an ice bath and allow them to chill to stop the cooking process. Drain them and pat dry with a paper towel.
- Place on a baking tray and flatten the Brussels Sprouts with a mason jar. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F/204°C for 2 minutes.
- Toss smashed Brussels Sprouts with avocado oil, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Transfer into an air fryer basket, giving them enough space so they don't touch.
- Cook in the air fryer for 5 minutes, then flip. Cook for another 5 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and crispy.
Notes
- Use a sturdy glass jar (mason jar) to smash the Brussels Spouts.
- There should not be touching inside the air fryer basket. This will allow enough space for proper airflow, resulting in a crispy texture.
- Instead of parboiling, you can use the microwave. Put the sprouts in a microwave-safe bowl add half a cup of water and let them cook for 4-6 minutes.
