Ever since I purchased my first air fryer, I have been coming up with great ways to use this versatile piece of equipment.

My Gluten-Free English Muffins are one of my reader's favorites, and I was looking for the best way to toast muffins.

Air fryers are great because they circulate hot air to cook, or in this case, toast your food. The air fryer I have in my kitchen is the Gourmia Air Fryer.

I love how I can toast multiple English muffins at the same time! My traditional toaster limits me to only toasting two halves at a time.

The air fryer is a life-saver in my breakfast routine. My Air Fryer Poached Eggs, Air Fryer Omelette, and Air Fryer Soft Boiled Eggs are some of my favorite go-to recipes.

Why you should toast English Muffins in an Air Fryer

  • Healthy - Air fryers use hot air to toast the English Muffins requiring no oil. Traditionally English Muffins are toasted on a griddle with butter or fat.
  • Efficiency - Most air fryer baskets can toast multiple English muffins at a time. I have one of those traditional toasters that can only toast two slices of bread at a time.
  • Consistency - Once you dial in your air fryer setting, you will have a perfectly toasted English muffin every time. I find that toasting for 5 minutes at 400 degrees is perfect for my air fryer.
  • Easy to make - I love how I can check on my progress quickly by pulling out the air fryer basket. If I was using a toaster it would be very challenging.

  • English Muffins - Make sure to fork split English Muffins to take advantage of all those nooks and crannies.
  • Toppings - It's optional, but you can top English muffins with butter, jams, peanut butter, or cream cheese.

Serving Suggestions

You can transform English muffins into so many epic breakfast recipes. Here are a few ideas:

  • Breakfast sandwich - Enjoy your English muffin breakfast sandwich with eggs, cheese, and bacon.
  • Eggs Benedict - Tackle the classic eggs benedict recipe and top with my blender hollandaise sauce.
  • Mini Pizzas - English muffin pizzas are great for the kids. Top muffins with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese and cook in the air fryer until crispy and delicious!
  • Toppings - Spread your favorite jam, butter, or candied kumquats.

Chef Tips

  • Fork split - Use a fork to pierce holes around the English muffin to pull it apart. If you use a knife, it will flatten all of those nooks and crannies.
  • Keep a watchful eye- All air fryers are different, so pull out the basket around the 3-minute mark to check for the doneness you want.
  • Don't overcrowd - If you place too many muffins in your air fryer, it won't cook evenly. There needs to be enough space so the hot air can circulate properly. My air fryer can toast three muffins at once.
  • Avocado spray- I spray my English muffins lightly with an avocado oil spray so they get golden brown and crispy.

Time and Temperature Chart

Every air fryer is different so cook times may vary.

  • Lightly Toasted: 400°F for 2-3 minutes
  • Medium Toasted: 400°F for 4 minutes
  • Very Toasted: 400°F for 5 minutes

FAQ's

Why do you split English muffins with a fork?

Cutting English muffins in half with a knife removes all the nooks and crannies that hold the butter or jam intact. Using a fork, gently split the muffin in half.

Can I make English muffin pizzas in the air fryer?

Yes, English muffin pizzas are the best! Top muffins with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese or your favorite toppings. Cook at 350 degrees for 5 minutes or until the cheese is golden-brown and melted.

Do I need to preheat the air fryer before toasting English Muffins?

Yes, it's important to start with a hot air fryer basket for browning. If the air fryer is cold you won't get those crispy edges.

How long does it take to toast an English muffin in an air fryer?

It all depends on the air fryer you have. We recommend anywhere from 3-5 minutes at 400°F. Around the 3-minute mark, start pulling out the air fryer basket to check on the progress.
