- 1 pound Brussels Sprouts
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ cup parmesan cheese
Prepare the sprouts by trimming the ends and, if necessary, discarding the outer leaves.
Bring a pot of water to a boil add in the Brussels Sprouts, allowing them to cook for 10 minutes or until fork tender.
Transfer them to an ice bath and allow them to chill to stop the cooking process. Drain them and pat dry with a paper towel.
Place on a baking tray and flatten the Brussels Sprouts with a mason jar. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F/204°C for 2 minutes.
Toss smashed Brussels Sprouts with avocado oil, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Transfer into an air fryer basket, giving them enough space so they don't touch.
Cook in the air fryer for 5 minutes, then flip. Cook for another 5 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and crispy.
Cooking in the oven
Follow the same initial steps, but for oven preparation, bake them at 425°F for 15-20 minutes or until the edges and tops become crispy and golden brown.
Chef Tips
- Use a sturdy glass jar (mason jar) to smash the Brussels Spouts.
- There should not be touching inside the air fryer basket. This will allow enough space for proper airflow, resulting in a crispy texture.
- Instead of parboiling, you can use the microwave. Put the sprouts in a microwave-safe bowl add half a cup of water and let them cook for 4-6 minutes.
