Ingredients

Strawberry Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 ½ cup strawberries sliced

Sugar and Salt Mixture

Strawberry Margarita

  • 2 strawberries
  • 2 ounces tequila
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 1 ounce strawberry syrup
  • ½ ounce Grand Marnier
  • lime, fresh strawberries, and mint for garnish

Instructions

Strawberry Simple Syrup

  • In a medium-sized saucepan, combine water, honey, and sliced strawberries.
  • Bring syrup mixture to a simmer and cook over low heat for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Strain strawberry syrup through a fine-mesh strainer. Don't press strawberries, it will make the syrup cloudy. Place it inside the refrigerator until you need it.

Sugar and Salt Mixture

  • Mix honey crystals, salt, and lime zest and place them on a small plate.
  • Take a lime wedge and run it around the rim of your margarita glass.
  • Roll the rim of the margarita glass in the sugar and salt mixture. Set aside.

Strawberry Margarita

  • In a cocktail shaker, muddle 2 strawberries to release their juices.
  • Pour in tequila, lime juice, strawberry syrup, Grand Marnier, and ice cubes. Shake until the cocktail shaker is very cold.
  • Pour into prepared glasses with ice cubes and garnish with limes, strawberries, and mint.

Notes

  • I like to make a large batch of margarita mix, transfer it into mason jars, and freeze.
  • When straining the simple syrup don't press on the strawberries, it will make it cloudy.
  • If you don't have Grand Marnier a splash of orange juice will do the trick.
  • Fresh strawberries are in season from the end of March through July.  Buy frozen strawberries if they are not in season.
  • If you don't have a cocktail shaker and glass jar with a lid will work.  Just make sure to have a fine-mesh strainer.
